Oxjam Lincoln ‘On Your Jollies Summer Show’

Oxjam Lincoln 2016 returns for the team’s third consecutive year fundraising for Oxfam through multiple music events in the heart of Lincoln. The team raised in excess of £1,800 last year through 12 music events during August – October and this success saw the team finish third place out of over 350 gig makers nationwide. This success shows the amount of work, energy and passion the small team of volunteers contribute but also the kindness and generosity of those who have attended their events.

Oxjam Ann, the coordinator for Oxjam Lincoln explains:

“We were over the moon to find out we have been so successful and have the recognition from Oxfam. More importantly the donations and support we received from our performers, our audiences and our host venues. I think credit has to be paid to small team of volunteers, without them we wouldn’t be able to put our events on with continued success. We are recruiting for volunteers for this year to continue the passion to make a difference for the global community as well as highlight the great music locally.”

Oxjam Lincoln 2016 focuses their efforts on 5 events this year, and this year marks the 10th year of Oxjam Music Festival. Their first event is Oxjam on Your Jollies Summer Show on 13th August which is an all day and night event at the Jolly Brewer.

On Your Jollies Summer Show is a family show, and is a special all day and night music extravagance which will take place on Saturday 13th August at the Jolly Brewer, between 3-11pm in the Beer Garden and is free entry. The event will be a showcase the best of local musicians and original material and a wide range of musical genres ranging from pop, indie, rock, folk, country and rockabilly, as well as a touch of African Drumming to kick the day off! Acts confirmed to perform are: Georgie Hanson, The Procrastinators, Tyrants, 13 Women, The Ocean Hounds, 41 Ford and Falling Lights.

There will also be face painting and henna during the day, as well as a special guest appearance of Nautical Nelly courtesy of Once upon a Party, this will be a special meet and greet opportunity between 3.30-4.30pm which the little ones will enjoy. So come join our swashbuckling fun and have a dance in the Beer Garden, all are welcome, enjoy the music and soak up the sun! Refreshments and food will be available throughout the day.

There will be a raffle during the event with all funds going towards Oxfam, all donations are gratefully welcome as with every £1 donated – 84p directly goes into Oxfam’s emergency aid and campaign work by Oxfam.

This year to reflect Oxfam’s campaign work, the team are emphasising and raising the awareness of Girl Power and equality for all with their all girl gig on the 14th October and this event will take place at The Scene.

Oxjam Ann, the coordinator for Oxjam Lincoln explains:

“The idea of ‘GIRL POWER! Sing Out Sisters!’ began as a cheeky wink to the anniversary of the Spice Girls this year, but everyone knows the story of Malala Yousafzai and her influence to empower other women to stand up for their rights and equality. The work of Oxfam is to make sure women have the chance to learn or build their skills to start their own businesses in order to provide for their family and better themselves.”

The Jolly Brewer will further host ROXJAM 3 on Saturday 10th September; the remaining events include ‘Oxjam Cabaret’ at Madame Waffle on 30th September, ‘GIRL POWER! Sing Out Sisters!’ at The Scene on 14th October and ‘Roar Liquor 2’ at Liquor on 15th October.

Oxjam Lincoln are looking for volunteers to help at their events but also any local businesses who wish to donate raffle prizes or help in terms of sponsorship or funding or wish to engage with the local community as Oxjam is very much about the local community and welcome more people to get involved and attend their events.
